So I was looking through the lore that you get from the Aurora, and I got to the part where they describe Ryley as "non-essential systems" and about lost my shit because of course. Of course he's fuckin Dave Lister. Radiation leak, everybody's dead, it all checks out.

Of course, the big difference is that Ryley doesn't look a thing like Dave. He looks like this:

Different head shape, different ethnic background, totally different features, etc. In fact, he looks a lot more like...

Subnautica is very unrealistic.

Why?

Cause if I was Riley I would have not have returned home. Not after going through all the shit I went a building a manageable and survivable home on planet 4546B. I’d stay there and look for more survivors or humans. But after amassing the shitty amount of debt I did. Yeah, I’d stay there.

My first encounter with a Reaper has been seeing its fin and going “Huh that’s not a Stalkers tail, right?”

First and foremost - I AM SO MUCH IN LOVE WITH YOUR ART, I CAN'T EVEN FIND THE WORDS TO DESCRIBE IT!!!!!!!! Random algorithm brought me one of the posts with baby reaper AND I FELL HARD AND STRONG. Your subnautica (and of course other non-subnautica, i just fell for it the most) content is AMAZING! Read it all in one breath and now I have this warm feeling throughout my body. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! If you don't mind me asking, do you have any headcanons about baby reaper leviathan and ryley interacting with each other? Like how did they meet, how did they formed such an amazing bond? And does the baby have a name???? Or at least a cute nickname you have in your head for him????

I remember the aliens had a base where they kept the eggs of almost all the underwater inhabitants. Despite the fact that all of them are behind glass and not alive, for some reason I wanted there to be a reaper's egg, which, as in the case of the Cuddlefish, could be safely taken (or in some other base separately).

And the thing is, Riley didn't know it was a reaper, he only found out when the embryo started to grow and develop in the aquarium. Riley probably didn't try to keep an eye on the baby at first, thinking it would just swim away like the others, but the reaper decided otherwise on freedom.

And from that then came the headcanons that this little guy was smarter than his kin after all. Hence the attachment to human. To someone who doesn't try to eat or kill him, but knows how to survive in this world. He wants to learn. Ordinary reapers, according to official info, have almost no brain. It is possible that the cubs on the contrary avoid adults by all means and try to survive on their own, and then grow up defending their territory. And they try to eat everything they can fit in their mouths, so….. Riley, you're a lucky man :D

The first sketch is also a small hint as to why there is warper following the cub at the end of the last comic...

About the nickname… I'm leaning towards the nickname Rippy. Kind of like Reaper, but in a softer form. I hope this word doesn't mean anything bad in English x)

Hear me out on an AU Spottie Confluence x Subnautica (I hope you know the Subnautica lore bc it kinda spoils): Urbanshade is a sub-company of Alterra, and as a bigger and more important company than Urbanshade (which is not known as part of Alterra) decided that during the checking about if there were illegal activities in their labs, transferred all test subjects (It takes place while Sadao's still in the tube in a dormant state) in a lab on 4546B in an Alterra lab. There the testing will continue, but the story will be different as Gabe doesn't go but change planets fully, this AU would take place after the canon-events of Subnautica, as Riley (mc) freed the Enzyme 42, curing the place from Kharaa. In the end, using the Precursor technologies (portal gates) Gabe manages to come back to Earth, and also have a sort of 'pocket portal' to reach 4546B where the others stayed at safety (will get update with Confluence updates :3)

I feel terrible because I know next to nothing about subnatica. I know it’s right up my alley of stuff I just never get to it, or get distracted by other things. But it does sound neat :0

He changed his name to dodge his life-debt to Alterra and is now trying to help his long-distance boyfriend out of a similar situation.
